概要

社会生態学的生産システムの一つである里山は、人々が生活や生業のために自然を利用することによって多様な生物に生息地を提供し、生物多様性の保全に重要な役割を果たしている場です。そのため、里山のコンセプトは、自然資源の利用と自然の保全が両立しうることを強調しています。とはいえ、自然の保全と活用を調和させることは難しく、それぞれの地域が独自の課題を抱えているようです。

本セミナーでは、社会・経済・自然環境が異なる日本とマラウイ（中央アフリカ）の里山の特徴と実践を報告し、それぞれの里山に特有の課題と共通の課題を明らかにし、その解決策を探ります。マラウイの研究者が日本での里山活動を報告し、日本の研究者がマラウイでの里山を紹介することで、グローバルな視点を提供します。

Abstract

Satoyama, a socio-ecological production system, is a place where people use nature for their livelihoods, and at the same time, it plays an important role in conserving biodiversity as it provides a habitat for a wide variety of organisms. Therefore, the satoyama concept emphasizes that the use of natural resources and the conservation of nature can be compatible. Nevertheless, it is difficult to harmonize the conservation and utilization of nature, and each region seems to have its own challenges.
This seminar will report on the characteristics and practices of satoyama in Japan and in Malawi (Central Africa), which have different
social, economic, and natural environments, to identify unique and
common challenges associated with each satoyama and to explore ways to solve them. A Malawian researcher will report on satoyama activities
in Japan, and a Japanese researcher will introduce satoyama in Malawi,
providing a global perspective.
